Register O’Donnell Outreaches to Norfolk Residents

Continuing his efforts to bring the Registry directly to the citizens of Norfolk County, Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell and his outreach team held office hours on Thursday, March 22nd at Norfolk Town Hall. O’Donnell and his team helped Norfolk residents with questions related to land documents. Topics covered included deeds, mortgage discharges and the Homestead Act.

Register O’Donnell stated, “I was heartened the inclement weather did not stop Norfolk residents from attending our office hours. One item that came up repeatedly was the subject of the Homestead Act. Under Massachusetts law, a Homestead recording provides for limited protection against the forced sale of an individual’s primary residence to satisfy unsecured debt up to $500,000.  I urge all Norfolk homeowners to avail themselves of this important consumer protection tool.”

Registry staff were also able to provide certified copies of land documents, including deeds, and were also able to bring original land documents back to the Registry for recording saving Norfolk residents time and expense.

In conclusion, O’Donnell stated, “I want to thank the board of selectmen, Town Administrator Jack Hathaway, and all the staff at the Norfolk Town Hall for their generosity and cooperation in allowing us to bring the Registry directly to the citizens of Norfolk.”
