Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell spoke on Thursday, February 7th to area veterans at the monthly Canton Veterans Services group meeting held at the Senior Center. At the conclusion of the Register’s prepared remarks, Registry staff was made available to answer questions and provide copies of deeds, Homesteads and other land documents.
Register O’Donnell noted, “I was honored to speak before this outstanding group of veterans who have done so much in service to our country. Attendees were provided with an overview of Registry of Deeds operations and updated on several consumer issues affecting not only veterans but all homeowners in Norfolk County.”
Among the consumer issues addressed at the meeting was the Homestead Act. O’Donnell noted, “The Homestead Act provides limited protection against the forced sale of an individual’s primary residence to satisfy unsecured debt up to $500,000. I urge Norfolk County homeowners to consider this important consumer protection tool.”
In conclusion Register O’Donnell stated, “I want to again thank all veterans for their service to our country. I also want to thank Tony Andreotti, Canton Veterans Agent and Jennifer Trethewey, Canton Veterans Services Office Administrator and the staff of the Canton Senior Center for their generosity in allowing the Registry to appear before this distinguished group of veterans.”
