Continuing his efforts to bring the Registry directly to the citizens of Norfolk County, Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell and his outreach team held office hours on Thursday, March 21st at Walpole Town Hall. O’Donnell and his team helped Walpole residents with questions related to land documents. Topics covered included the Homestead Act and mortgage discharges.
Register O’Donnell stated, “It was a pleasure to visit Walpole and help residents with their land document related questions. One item that came up repeatedly was the subject of mortgage discharges. When a mortgage has been paid off, a mortgage discharge document needs to be recorded with the Registry of Deeds to clear a homeowner’s property title relative to that loan. A discharge is a document (typically one-two pages) issued by the lender, usually with a title such as “Discharge of Mortgage” or “Satisfaction of Mortgage. If you have questions about whether or not a mortgage has been discharged, please call our Customer Service Center at 781-461-6101.”
In conclusion, O’Donnell stated, “I want to thank the board of selectmen, Town Administrator Jim Johnson, and all the staff at Town Hall for their help and cooperation in allowing us to bring the Registry directly to the citizens of Walpole.”
