Register O’Donnell Partners with InnerCity Weightlifting

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell today announced the Registry will give a “lift” to InnerCity Weightlifting, a non-profit organization whose mission it is to keep at-risk young people off the streets.

“The Registry’s focus with InnerCity Weightlifting will be to provide their clients through our “Suits for Success” program with business appropriate attire,” noted Register O’Donnell. “These are young, at-risk people who have positive aspirations and are attempting to fulfill them through gainful employment in the field of personal training.”

The mission of InnerCity Weightlifting is to keep young people off the streets by using its weightlifting and gym facilities to create a community and network of support that encompasses education, job training and employment in the field of personal training. To date approximately 150 youths have availed themselves of the program. When the program began it had only 4 participants.

The donated clothing is part of the Registry’s longstanding Suits for Success program, which provides business appropriate attire to those who are attempting to re-enter the workforce. Other non-profits who have benefitted from this program include Interfaith Social Services of Quincy, Father Bill’s & MainSpring of Quincy and Brockton and the Boston Veterans Administration’s Healthcare System Service program.

In 2018, 81% of at-risk youth who spent time at InnerCity Weightlifting avoided incarceration. Monetarily, the program has generated approximately $5.6 million in “value savings” through reducing recidivism rates and by increasing employment opportunities.

Some of the many sponsors of the InnerCity Weightlifting organization include State Street Foundation, John Hancock Life Insurance Company, The Lynch Foundation, Citizens Bank, Bank of America Charitable Foundation and The Boston Foundation.
