Notable Land Records Vol 4 “We Remember Our Women”

Notable Land Records, Volume 4, titled “We Remember Our Women,” was written to create an awareness of the importance of women in society. This publication tries to capture the ways women have shaped the country and communities we all live in.

Some of the women featured are journalists, actresses, pioneers, astronauts, and soldiers who truly demonstrate that Norfolk County women have played a significant part in shaping the communities of this county and the state as well as our country into what it is today. Abigail Adams, the second First Lady of the United States, was born in 1744 in Weymouth. In 1764, she married John Adams. She was an abolitionist who believed in a woman’s right to education and the ability to make her own decisions about her life. John Quincy Adams, her son, would become the sixth President of the United States. It was Abigail Adams who famously wrote to her husband during the Continental Congress debate in Philadelphia, “I desire that you remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.”

It is important to recognize and be mindful of the women in our contemporary society and all they have accomplished. Let us take a moment to thank all women who have made a difference in our communities and in our own lives. Our lives, our communities, and our country would not be what they are today without them.

The booklet was introduced to the public at an event held at the Registry of Deeds on September 10th, 2025. Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kimberley Driscoll was the event’s guest speaker.

I hope you enjoy the booklet as much as my staff and I enjoyed researching and writing it.
