This open letter is to update you on some exciting news!
We just recently received confirmation that Massachusetts Veterans’ Services Secretary Jon Santiago has agreed to be the keynote speaker at our Wednesday November 8th event, “We Remember Our Veterans.” The evening, which will run from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 8th at the Registry, celebrates the release of our 3rd notable land records book, honoring at least one past or present veteran from each of the 28 communities in Norfolk County.
We are honored to have Secretary Santiago speak. He is the first Veterans’ Secretary in Massachusetts history that has cabinet rank status and a direct reporting line to the Governor. The secretary oversees the needs and concerns of approximately 300,000 Massachusetts veterans. He is uniquely qualified for this cabinet position as a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, an emergency medical physician at Boston Medical Center, and as a former volunteer in the Peace Corps. Jon Santiago is a person of immense drive and talent who has devoted his life to helping others.
We hope you can partake in this special event. Come meet Secretary Santiago, stroll the Registry’s Great Hall and view the fascinating storyboards detailing the history of the various branches of the armed services, the contributions of veterans ranging from the Revolutionary War to present day peace protectors, see a list of Norfolk County veterans who were awarded the Medal of Honor, and observe the significant ways a nation honors its veterans. Everyone attending will receive a copy of a “We Remember Our Veterans” booklet.
